The Discipline of Looking Sharp (Even when you don't feel like it)

‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’, is a common saying that goes around, but we as human beings always judge books by their cover, because thats whats presented to us. We have to judge things by the way they look because then we can better understand what we are dealing with. So we have to make sure we are always looking sharp even when we don’t feel like it..

Its a discipline

Its easy to look good when you feel good, when life’s throwing you aces, its easy to show up and show out.. Then comes the days when we don’t feel that great and we let things slip. The days when you forget to get your haircut, put on a clean outfit, shine your shoes and walk with confidence! Not because it’s easy but because it’s who you have decided to be! This is where true focus and vision lies..

Your appearance affects your mind

How you look affects how you feel, and how you feel affects your success in life. You don’t do it because you want to, you do it because thats what your supposed to do. You’re organised, suited up, smell good, hair fresh, car clean. Its not faked confidence its real because you are who you say you are. No longer this unorganised messy erratic individual who cant think straight.

Ill do it ‘tomorrow’

Don’t be that guy or girl who adopts the “ill do it tomorrow” or “ill do it when i feel like it” mindset. Your instantly gonna loose. Too many people in society walk around with this mindset and you my friend are not like them. Everybody wanna do it when they are ‘feeling good’ never when the chips are down. This kind of attitude is probably why we have a generation addicted to ‘smart’ phones. Not a generation of winners.

The standards you set

Some people have busy and chaotic lives and thats okay, but just as you put gas in your car, it would be wise to gas yourself up before you go out, so to speak. It doesn’t always have to be about money, you dont always need ‘designer’ clothes, clothes from cheap store would work equally as well. You be surprised at how far one of the cheaper suits would get you 👔

Being clean

Your clothes are washed, spray cologne, hair is neat and tidy, nails trimmed, all are the cornerstones of discipline. You cannot expect to have healthy relationships with people if you ain’t smell nice. People love nice smells and cleanliness not some hot shot with bad breath.

Being intentional

Nothing worse than someone who is always late and messy, especially when your shit is together! When you make a time, you stick to it! This is how you gain trust from people and yourself.

Paying attention to detail

Remembering names or respecting local travel customs when out & about goes a very long way. Being so self absorbed you forget the little det may lead to your demise. So it important that you slow down and give your brain enough time to think.

Respect yourself enough to show up properly

Do yourself the honour and make sure you’re ready before heading out, no one is cool enough to be rocking up to an event a complete mess. So do yourself the honour and be well dressed and well prepared…

Even on those rainy days

Somedays you really just don’t feel like it, but life works in mysterious ways.. Those lazy days are usually the days when you bump into someone important. Being disciplined enough that your always ready to go is the key to success 🔑 Building a strong foundation will pay dividends down the road.

A Quick Routine That Changes Everything

You don’t need a 45 – step grooming routine. You just need a few non negotiables. Simple habits that keep you sharp even on low energy days!

Here’s some basic standards to follow:

1. Clean Yourself Up

Shower properly.

Wash your face.

Brush your teeth.

Use deodorant.

Sounds obvious but most people let the basic things slip when life gets messy. Discipline starts with maintenance!

2. Wear Clothes That Fit Properly

You don’t need designer brands. A clean black shirt that fits well will look equally as good as expensive clothes…

Focus on:

  • Clean shoes
  • Coordinated colours
  • Proper fit
  • Simple combinations

Sharp doesn’t always mean flashy..

3. Fix Your Posture

Most people instantly look more confident by simply standing properly with their chest up, shoulders relaxed and head level. The body speaks before you do..!

4. Stay Physically Active

Training changes your energy, even a walk, gym session, surf, or Muay Thai session can completely reset yourself, movement sharpens the mind…!

5. Keep Your Environment Clean

Your room, car, workspace whatever it is, messy environments can create mental noise!  A clean environment will make it easier to think clearly and carry yourself properly.

6. Show Up Anyway

Arguably the most important one, obviously will be days you feel tired, flat, insecure, unmotivated but you have to do it anyway!

Because standards mean nothing if they only exist on your good days, thats where discipline is built..

Closing Chapter

Looking sharp isn’t always about self indulgence, its about self respect and self preservation. You can’t expect to get anywhere if you always look like an unorganised mess. Its time to do yourself a favour and start taking your appearance seriously, almost as seriously as other people take it. So get those shirts and clippers out and get to work 🛠️
